About the Project

The work to be done under this contract consists of resurfacing and related work on Route 9 in Brookline. It begins at the Newton-Brookline Town Line at station 0+00 Brookline, then continues along Route 9 (Boylston Street) easterly in the town of Brookline to the end of project at station 145+00 at the end of State Highway Layout before the intersection of High Street and Washington Street near Brookline Village.

This project consists of resurfacing a portion of Route 9 (Boylston Street) in Brookline and includes related work. The length of roadway proposed for resurfacing amounts to 14,500 feet (2.746 miles). The work includes:

  • Milling (aka Cold Planing)

  • Resurfacing the roadway

  • Replacing highway guard rail

  • Reconstructing the median

  • Improving drainage

  • Constructing wheelchair ramps

  • Sidewalk replacement

  • Installing traffic control loop detectors

  • Tree planting and landscaping

The work will not widen the overall roadway and sidewalk width so there will be no increase in impervious area. Hay bales and silt fence will be located at areas of environmental concern. Areas include, but are not limited to slope embankments adjacent to resource areas, drainage pipe outlets, paved waterways, and areas designated by the Engineer.
